The extravagance of God

Jesus PainterThe Jesus Painter Event at First Trinity on Friday night simply overwhelmed me with joy:

  • Watching Mike Lewis create four paintings that depict Jesus in such an intimate way
  • The music that perfectly accompanied the visual artwork
  • Jason’s Gospel message story-weaving
  • Remembering Mike Hangen, who’s memorials helped to pay for this event
  • 70 kids in the building for the 30 Hour Famine who served in Jesus’ name throughout Western New York on Saturday
  • The team, led by Ilene Polley, that put the whole thing together: stage up, stage down, ticket sales, ushers, and more…
  • A church chock-full of people to experience the message

It all feels extravagant to me. Wonderful, wild, God-given extravagance. He is so gracious to us!

I was overwhelmed with joy too!! I also thought it was such a great way to begin Lent. I know that this year the time of Lent is going to be very special for me.

I was so blessed to witness this event! I kept thinking how this was such a different way to experience the story of Jesus.

I had prayed for it to be a life-inspiring night for Samuel, my artist. I was worried when the school nurse called during the day, that we wouldn’t make it. He bounced back in 10 minutes and we were good to go. Thank you Lord, for answering prayers!

Oh, and while we were there he said “Mom, I’m having a really good time. Thanks for bringing me.” How I love affirmation! :)

It truly was a great event!
