I LOVE books…I mean really really love them. Always have. I love the way a few pages can take me to somewhere across the world, or into a character’s mind or teach me something I didn’t know. My all-time favorite thing to do on vacation? Read wonderful novels for hours at a time, uninterrupted. I LOVE books.
I have too many of them, though. I have actually prayed this prayer: “God, make me willing to part with some of these books. Help me know they are not ‘home’. You are.”
CHECK OUT what I found today!! BookMooch.com. You list books you’re willing to give away. You request books that other people are willing to give away. True, you have to pay the postage to send the book, but I love it that someone who wants it is getting it. It’s recycling in a wonderful way. I have long written the names of people who have borrowed my books in the front cover (along with the dates they had them). I love thinking that the same story or the same wisdom has been in that particular set of minds. Books have a life, in my view. BookMooch.com takes this to a whole new level!
Anyway, you have to get 10 books on your “willing to give away” list before you earn a point. A point gets you a book from someone else. After that first ten, though, it goes faster…if you give one away, you get a point.
Click here to see my current inventory. I already sent one book off today!
I’m going on vacation March 6th…hoping to get some of my “vacation reads” by mooching. Why don’t you sign up? I could check out your list! And, if you live in Buffalo, we wouldn’t even have to deal with the whole postage thing! Let’s learn the beautiful art of mooching, together!

I know I just emailed you this but then I realized this was probably the place to put it so here it is again:
Sue,
I love this site! I registered a few days ago after reading your blog. I decided to go through my boxes and dig out some of my books I didn’t need anymore for school or didn’t read anymore. I only listed 7 books and am mailing out 5 of them tomorrow! I love recycling like this. Thanks for the idea!
