We had our last Servant Leadership class this morning…good stuff. We looked at coaching as a leadership skill and used the clip above from “Mr. Holland’s Opus” as an example. Love this scene! Thanks to my friend Dr. Jack Giles for making the connection between it and coaching for me.
What can you learn from Mr. Holland, here?

It is about connecting to your passion. That is where you find joy in what you do.

Patience – with ourselves and with others – even when they can’t find it for themselves.

That was an awesome movie…and now I think I have to watch it again!!! BTW, one of the clips tagged below is “Mr. Hollands Opus Closing Finale” and it is essentially the follow up to the clip Sue posted. Watch it. It’s powerful! Awesome!
What can we learn – I echo all of the above. I would also say that as leaders/coaches, it is our job not to teach so much as it is to free those we lead to express their gifts/passions. God uses us to free others to be who He – and He alone – created them to be.
