clock

Hey–don’t forget to turn your clocks forward tonight. That way you won’t show up to worship God tomorrow with only He and you in the room. :-)

Kristina

In Servant Leadership, we are studying a book called “Death by Meeting” (by Patrick Lencioni). It’s a story meant to teach about the importance of good meetings. One of the pivotal characters in the story is Will–he turns a whole company around by taking a few risks and understanding the make-up of a good meeting. Without a shout out to the Red Learning Cluster (Beras, Hartnett, Porter and Gerlach), Kristina (above) has been putting what she’s learning to good use in her work with ROTC. She gave herself a reminder on the top of her clip board.

Kristina rocks.

Can’t wait for our next in-person meeting for Servant Leadership on Tuesday March 18!

Would you enjoy being part of a skit that would help kids learn that Jesus Gives Us the Power to Help Others?!!?

Are you available from 11:15am – 12:00pm on Tuesday July 15?

At Power Lab VBS this summer, we’re going to be tapping into Jesus’ miraculous power and you can help us do it!! If this is you or someone you know, make a comment on this post or zip me an email!

I leave today for a vacation with dear friends. Oh my!

I am so excited!!! We will be on this boat:

Norwegian Sun

I am actually not even taking my computer with me (gasp!) and already a little anxious about not being connected electronically or through a cell phone or a text message or SOMETHING. I know in my head that this is crazy…the world and the church will run just fine without me. It is not rational–but it is real. I am trusting God will strip me of those anxieties one relaxing moment at a time.

I have pre-written some blog posts, so you all don’t forget me. :-)

See you on Palm Sunday. I CANNOT wait to celebrate the most Holiest of Weeks with my church family. Nothin’ like it.

Do you speak another language?

Would you like to help kids learn about Jesus?

Are you free on Friday July 18, all morning?

At Power Lab VBS this Summer, on Friday, our Bible Blast stations (2 stations) will each need someone who can speak another language to be part of their station that day. Kids will try to communicate with someone who can’t speak their language, hear about the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and practice sharing God’s love. If you would have fun doing this or know someone else who might, make a comment on this post or zip me an email.

I just heard that the Everyday Faith “My Bible” event is up to 28 people (11 families). That’s eleven third and fourth graders and their parents who will be working through God’s word TOGETHER for the Spring quarter. That’s AWESOME! We have such a great problem at 10:00 on Sundays: not enough space because of all the people in the building (and actually out of the building, too!) who are studying God’s Word.

I’m doing the Happy Dance right now.

Let me go see if Kathy Figini and Jason  and Tim will do it with me.

They wouldn’t dance. But they said they’re happy with me.

Daily bread, God as provider, dependence day-by-day…good stuff!

I got a chance to sneak in some time with my brother Pete’s family in Minneapolis last week (hooray!!!). Besides the pure joy of being with them, I always learn something. They have chosen to give up TV and computer games for Lent. My awesome sister-from-another-mother (married to my brother) Julie said that it was hard at first, but the kids don’t even ask anymore. Their time is filled with puzzles and books and playing together. I noticed that my nephew Jack found a way to play with a balloon for an hour at one point. He was having a ball!

Mark Bittman from the New York Times wrote yesterday about taking a “Secular Sabbath” from technology once a week. You can read the whole column, here. This is a guy who sleeps with his laptop by his bed so that an email-check can be his first and last activity everyday. He finds that taking that break is extremely helpful….that life needs balance. There is even an “unplugged blog” out there where people are tracking their commitment to regularly unplugging from technology.

I love it when God’s truth pops up in His world! He knows what we need and says so in His Word:

Be still and know that I am God. – Psalm 46:10

For Christians, the break is not a chance to “empty ourselves” or to think of “nothing”–it’s a chance to remember that (as Pastor Chuck reminded us last week): “There is a God and we are not Him”. So–take a break, my friend. Pause. Unplug. Think on God. It’s good stuff!!
